Indian producers have started to use Georgia as a shooting location.
Billa 2 and Irandam Ulagam have both recently shot in the former Soviet Union country.
"To attract foreign investment to the country, the government of Georgia, along with other initiatives, decided to cooperate with Indian filmmakers," journalist Soso Khachidze told Digital Spy.
"In 2010, the minister of economy Vera Kobalia visited Mumbai, where she met with Bollywood representatives, including Aamir Khan, to invite filmmakers to shoot in Georgia."
Tamil thriller Billa 2, which released in July, was shot in Tamil Nadu, Goa and Hyderabad as well as Georgia.
Upcoming romantic drama Irandam Ulagam has been filmed in Goa, Brazil and, in a two-month schedule, at a number of locations across Georgia.
The Tamil language release was originally planned as a Telugu project. Khachidze explained that the two south Indian films had earlier been incorrectly identified as Bollywood cinema.
"I made a call to the Ministry of Economy, the government agency that negotiated the movie shootings with Indian filmmakers in 2010, and explained them that they were misleading the public by reporting these shootings as Bollywood films," he said.
"After shooting the last movie Irandam Ulagam, however, official government agencies and national broadcaster didn't report it as Bollywood, but said it was an Indian film."
